AP's Coaches Blog; Victory Monday

Amateur hockey fans across the province were treated to some great hockey this past weekend. Lets look at what has transpired around the province; but before I do that, I should congratulate Nick Gosse, Matt McKim and Alex Newhook on winning the OMHA's last weekend (York Simcoe Express). Well done gentleman.

The Northeast Eagles Novice Select team defeated the St. John's Caps in the Provincial Novice Select finals yesterday at the Glacier. The Eagles were chalk blocked with #xhockeyplayers , and had a strong lineup from the goaltending out. Congrats to the team and the coaching staff on the W! The tournament was a classic case of "that's why they play the games", as both the Caps and Eagles were considered underdogs in both of their semi finals matchups against Mount Pearl and CBR 1 respectively.

The St. John's Peewee AAA Hitmen defeated the TriCom Thunder 2-0 in the Provincial finals in Glovertown yesterday. With the win, St. John's earns the right to represent NL at the Atlantics in Charlottetown, PEI in April. The Hitmen are vastly comprised of #xhockeyplayers, and have three X Hockey coaches behind the bench (Shawn Newhook, Lorne Walsh, PJ Power). The Hitmen faced an uphill battle from the onset, as the team had to stay an hour away from the arena and had two 8 am games. One would have to wonder why a tournament of such magnitude would be hosted by a town that does not have appropriate lodging close to the arena.....and I digress.....

The weekend belonged to the Northeast Eagles Minor Hockey Association in more ways than one, as the Eagles U15 Girls team also won a gold medal in Southern Shore. X Hockey coach Callie Langmead won her first championship as a bench boss, and one would have to assume that many more will be coming. According to Langmead, #xhockeygoaltending Sandra Sebetovsky was spectacular in the tournament, punctuated by a shutout in the semi finals. Congrats to all #xhockeyplayers on the female squadron!
